Health, Wellness, & Safety Committee

The Colorado PTA Health, Wellness, & Safety (HWS) Committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month (except April and December), 12 – 1:30PM, at the CO PTA office,  7859 W. 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge.

Committee Goals

  • Effectively advocate for legislative issues related to health, wellness, and safety
  • Provide education for parents, teachers, students, staff, and the community on topics related to K-12 student health, wellness, and safety
  • Encourage each PTA to appoint a Healthy Lifestyles Chair within its respective school
  • Collaborate and partner with like-minded organizations/agencies within Colorado to further enhance education and awareness of  health, wellness, and safety issues
  • Provide local PTA units with resources, information, and grant or fiscal support availability
  • Develop mutually beneficial collaboration with other PTA committees and programs
  • Participate in the Colorado Healthy Schools Collective Impact initiative
  • Ongoing education for Committee members provided by guest speakers and updated information from committee members at monthly committee meetings
  • Develop new focus areas as needed to provide optimum support for all students (e.g. a Task Force addressing Youth Suicide Prevention was  formed in 2015 that evolved to a Subcommittee in 2016)
